Coronation Beech Tree – Forthcoming Works

For insurance purposes, the Parish Council is required to undertake an inspection of all Parish Trees, every three years.

Published: 10 March 2026

The Parish trees were inspected in December 2025 and the full arborist’s report is available to read below

A small number of trees have unfortunately been affected by Ash Dieback. The trees that are now fatally affected are located near the toilet block on the Back Green and will need to be removed for safety reasons.

The good news is that all other Parish trees are reported to be in generally good health. However, the Beech tree on the Middle Green, planted to mark the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, has developed some stress cracks. With appropriate remedial work it is possible to preserve this lovely tree.

The Parish Council has obtained quotations from qualified tree surgeons and has submitted a request to Northumberland County Council for permission to carry out the necessary works, as all of the trees are located within the Conservation Area.

If there is sufficient interest from residents, the Parish Council would be very happy to arrange a public meeting to discuss the options for caring for the Coronation Beech and to hear the community’s views.

Residents who would like to comment or register their interest in a meeting are very welcome to contact the Parish Council.
